Chimp Management Model

Chimp Management, founded by Professor Steve Peters, helps individuals and organisations improve mental wellbeing, performance, and resilience through the Chimp Model, which simplifies neuroscience into practical tools for managing emotions and applying logical thinking.

They work with diverse clients, including elite sports teams, businesses, and healthcare providers. Known for supporting the British Olympic Cycling Team, they help athletes, students, and professionals develop mental resilience and cope under pressure. In schools, Chimp Management equips children, staff, and families with emotional regulation strategies, fostering a positive learning environment. They also provide corporate and healthcare clients with tools for effective communication, leadership, and stress management, supporting overall mental health and success.

At Hill Avenue Academy, we prioritise the mental health and emotional resilience of our children, families, and staff by partnering with Chimp Management mentors. Through this partnership, we deliver tools and strategies to help our community understand and manage emotions effectively, laying a foundation for a positive, supportive environment.

Enhancing our PSHE Curriculum

The Chimp Model is used to enhance our PSHE curriculum, teaching pupils to recognise and manage their emotional and logical responses. These skills help create a safe and positive environment where students feel capable of handling daily challenges with resilience and empathy.

Lower Key Stage 2 complete the 'My Hidden Chimp' sessions that teach children about how the TEN habits can help them to understand and manage their emotions and behaviour.

The science behind the habits is discussed in a practical way with exercises and activities to help children think the habits through and start putting them into practice. The neuroscience of the mind is simplified for children to understand and then use to their advantage.

Following this, our Year 5 and 6 pupils receive specific support to handle “spotlight” pressures, such as exams, performances, and the transition to secondary school. Chimp Management mentors work with them to develop coping skills for stress, building confidence for these key milestones.

Through this collaboration, Hill Avenue is proud to offer tools and understanding that support peace of mind, resilience, and a successful future for our entire community.

Resources for Parents and Families

We provide families with materials in our Manor MAT podcast created with the support of Chimp Management to help emotional wellbeing at home. These resources offer practical strategies and insights into the Chimp Model, helping families build a shared understanding and approach to managing emotions beyond the classroom.
